Relaxation for you and your child, in the comfort of your own home
at a convenient time for you!
Workshops for parents, carers and family members supporting children with Autism, additional needs and mental health conditions,
such as anxiety and stress, exam pressures and general worries.
Offering FRT workshops for parents, so you too can learn and use the techniques on your own child. Not only is this great for your child, FRT workshops are a fantastic way of being able to reduce your anxiety and stress levels too (as a parent myself I understand how stressful it can be when you can't find a way to help your child), thereby helping the whole family.
Giving an FRT treatment to your child is just as relaxing for you
as for your child!
What is Functional Reflex Therapy?
FRT is a combination of relaxation techniques drawn from reflexology. It is designed to empower those who support children with autism spectrum disorders, learning difficulties and complex needs. It is also benefical for children suffering from anxiety or stress, which may be due to exam pressures or any other worries they may have. The skills learnt at the workshop by delivering a short repetitive relaxation routine can then be undertaken at a time convenient for you and used regularly in the comfort of your own home.
Why use FRT?
Receiving FRT regularly can release happy chemicals throughout the body which can:
• Induce relaxation • Help improve mood • Reduce anxiety • Relieve tension • Help with sleep disorders • Supports well-being • Help concentration and focus • Encourages the receiver to be more receptive • Encourages social interaction • Encourages a better state of mind for learning • Supports mental health issues such as stress and anxiety, exam pressures or general worries • It has a positive effect on the issues that affect individuals and the people around them in many areas of their everyday lives.
How can I learn the FRT routine?
Workshops are available to enable you to learn to use and apply the FRT routine. These workshops are delivered by fully qualified reflexologists who have completed an FRT training course, please contact Sarah for more details.
About the FRT workshop, what to expect?
It is intended to be a friendly, fun and informative workshop. It teaches the routines to be applied to the hand and foot in two 2.5 hour sessions that are held over consecutive weeks. You will be provided with handouts to support the skills you have learnt and you will receive the FRT drawstring bag to accompany the workshop.
One to One Parent and Child workshops are also available.
After your child has received some Functional Reflex Therapy treatments, I can then offer one to one parent and child workshops, which will be taliormade for you and your childs individual requirements. This can also take less time, but may still be best split over two sessions, depending on the age of your child and their circumstances. For further information please discuss this with me after your childs treatment.
Please note that by attending a FRT workshop you will learn how to apply the basic routines demonstrated by a qualified reflexologist for the benefit of you and your family. The workshop is not part of any recognised reflexology training course. It does not give you a qualification and FRT respectfully ask that you do not try to teach it to others.
Sarah Bird, Bayside Reflexology - Functional Reflex Therapist.
I trained in Functional Reflex Therapy as I wanted to find a way to support my son who is on the autistic spectrum. FRT is a great communication tool that can help not only the child, but the parents too. I am passionate about offering FRT for children, but also offer FRT workshops for parents, so they too can learn and use the techniques on their own children. Not only is this great for the child, FRT workshops are a fantastic way of being able to reduce parents anxiety and stress levels too, (as a parent myself I understand how stressful it can be when you can't find a way to help your child) FRT thereby helps the whole family.
How did FRT develop?
Functional Reflex Therapy(FRT) was developed by Lorraine Senior, a UK based Reflexologist who, as a teacher for over 20 years supported children and adults with special educational needs, disabilities and communication issues. Delivering reflexology as a timetabled therapy in many environments Lorraine was encouraged with the results of her research and case studies (currently unpublished). Along with observations and feedback from staff, parents and receivers she created a structured approach for schools that effectively demonstrates the value and many benefits of Functional Reflex Therapy delivered by qualified Reflexologists.
